Problem We Are Trying to Solve

Roti or Indian flatbread is a staple food in North India, and as a principle, they prepare fresh food each day for the children. In order to automate the preparation of Rotis, The Akshaya Patra Foundation uses indigenous roti-making machines, which can more than 6000 rotis in an hour. The state-of-the-art machine is a part of the North Indian kitchen since wheat-based food is prevalent there just like rice is the staple diet in South India.

There is always a need for more such machines to help make more Rotis for the mid-day meals.

How We Are Going To Do It

Through our Mid-Day Meal Programme, our attempt is to feed the millions of children in India who lack the means but have the zeal to learn and achieve. By feeding them one wholesome meal a day, we give them the nourishment and motivation they need to pursue an education for a better future. It is our endeavour to reach out to every child at the grass-root level of society.

Who Benefits

Children in classes 1-5 in Government, Local Body and Government aided schools, and EGS and AIE centres

This, in turn, encourages children, belonging to disadvantaged sections, to attend school more regularly and helps them concentrate on classroom activities

This helps provide nutritional support to children in the primary stage in drought-affected areas during summer vacation.

While focusing on improving the nutritional level and attendance, Akshaya Patra also aims to address two Sustainable Development Goals: Zero Hunger and Quality Education.
